Pastor V.Nenglian conducts Responsive Reading: … Praise the Eternal Lord; My Life, Forget Not all the Good Things He Hath Done for You…
V. Biaklal a gospel musician in Central Lamka, Manipur, who happens to be in Delhi for personal reasons, leads the worship in praise. He emphasizes the importance of making oneself acceptable to God and being immersed in the realm of the spirit. With the selected hymns, “When We All Get to Heaven” (BNL 336), “The Love of Jesus” (BNL 187) the congregation sings about the wondrous love of Jesus, His mercy and grace. Through the hymns the Lord sure has a message. Opening up one’s heart is the least one can do. The sun rises in the morning only to disappear in the evening. But the love of God never left the believers. Man can only, in awesome, wonder the greatness of God.  Arr Stuart K. Hine’s “How Great Thou Art” (BNL 225) is an example of joy expressed through human comprehension.
Taking cue from Psalms 150 the WT Biaklal stresses the need of praise, which is not a request from God. In fact the scripture commands praise with varied kinds of instruments. He led the mass prayer with the hymn, “The Old Rugged Cross”. That is followed by the fifth hymn, “Tul ngei lou ding” – The never wilting happiness, and collection of offering by the Ushers.
The offering is dedicated by Upa Thianzakham.
On taking the pulpit pastor dedicates in prayer to God three infants: (i) Ms Dina Niangremmawi d/o Thangkhansiam Naulak (ii)Mr. M. Muantansang s/o Lamlun Munluah and (iii) S. Lalkhanpiang s/o S. Thangbiaklian.
In response to the Sunday School test exam held earlier, about 70 solved answer papers have been received including 16 online. 12 of them who score full mark are honored with award of gifts, which are handed over by Upa H. Kam Suangthang. The recipients of the honor are:
Name                                            Name of Cell
1.       Chiinkhanniang                       RK Puram
2.       Nancy Chinghoih                     Munirka

The Pastor also suggests that a second test covering the book of Saint Matthew chapters 21 to 28 is being conducted sometime in future.
For a very brief moment, the pastor helps the audience into memorizing the memory verse, Matthew 26:41 - Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
As different from the daily/or nightly worship held in Churches in towns and villages, the EBC Church in Delhi can afford to have one worship service in a week which begins at 11 am on Sundays. As such life enriching sermons given on such occasions has become the tradition. Sunday School lessons are incorporated in the Weekly DEW and the members are encouraged to go through such tutorials.
However certain Sunday services are dedicated for such classes. Due to the vastness of the lesson the pastor treats the church goers with a crash course on the Parable of the Ten Young Women-who went out to meet the bridegroom in a wedding (Matthew 25:5-13), the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus (Chapter 26), Trial of Jesus (Chapter 27) and the Resurrection (Chapter 28) with special highlight of certain noteworthy points as given below:
One The ten young women share so many things in common like the fact of having proceeded to the wedding, bringing lamps, having slept. How many of them are wise, really see the bridegroom and have fuel for the lamp? This question marks five of them out from the rest.
Two A house built on sand is destined to fall.
Three The servant either pleases or displeases the master in accordance with his/her treatment of the talent God deems appropriate. Closely aligned to the parable, Jesus told the disciples before His arrest about the separation of the sheep from the goat on Judgement Day.
Four On the anointing of Jesus by a lady the disciples suggested optimum utilization of the expensive perfume. According to Jesus, she has done a beautiful thing.
Five Jesus felt deeply depressed in the garden of Gethsemane. He said (watch and ) Pray or fall into temptation, the essence of a Christian life.
Six Pontias Pilate the Procurator or agent of the Roman Emperor ordered the crucifixion of Jesus on the insistence of the crowd. Much more than bread, his soul sure yearns for the admiration the hypocritic jewish people.
Seven From the crucifixion of Jesus i.e. AD 36 to the writing of the book of Saint Matthew i.e. AD 50 the officials of the Roman Empire spread the rumor that the body of Jesus was stolen by the disciples.
Eight The final word to disciples- Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The pastor informs the congregation of the planned Singspiration next Sunday. Also some anti-plastic campaigners’ accorded permission to display products in front of the Church, may be cooperated with by willing buyers.
Thereafter, he concluded the service with benediction.

The praise and worship service starts with mass prayer at 11 o’clock.   Sam Guite on keyboard, Upa Khamkhanpau on bass guiter and Muanlal with an acoustic guitar, the WT consisting of Sonkim, Lydia, Mung, Lun, Vumsuan, Remmawi, Upa Songzalian, Nemkhanmawi and Mankhodim with the Pastor at the head, steer the gathering away from the mental pre-occupation of sorts. The hymns “Phat din na ki lawm hi” – Thou Art Worth Praising, Charles Wesley’s “Aw Pau Sang Tampi’n Lasa Ding” - O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” and “Aw Jesu Tui Hing Lui Nahi” – Jesus Thou art the Living Water are sung in succession.
Blessed are the multitudes that drink from the fountain of divine privilege. It’s a matter of delight for which praise and adoration is all you can do.  David’s call for the sound of trumpet, the harp, the lyre, the tumbrel, strings and the pipe find a unique response through the hearts of the Zomis. “Ka Phat Zel Ding”- I’ll keep on praising, is an apt eulogy on the saving work of Jesus accompanied with temporal benefit to the believers. In discipleship living poses challenges like the darkest of nights. But the gloomy path is set to give meaning to the contrasting brightness that beckons the second coming of Jesus Christ.  Another inspiring worship song, “Khosiangthou Jerusalem”- the holy city of Jerusalem, born in the annals of the gospel in the North-East India stirs the spirits. The Pastor reminds the congregation of the need to dedicate oneself while undertaking the Christian Pilgrimage. The manner and extent by which God transmit the gospel through oneself ought to be assessed over and over again all through the entire journey. Do you have a genuine thirst for the spirit?
The gospel hit, “Ka Nunna In Toupa Ngai In” – My life thirsts for the Lord, drawing allegorical parallels between a ‘thirst for water’ inherent in a variety of deer found in North-East India with a peculiar Christian thirst for Holy Spirit, enchanted the congregation with rhapsody. Another mass prayer followed. In the moment of weakness Almighty God endows strength to a disciple. The Pastor thank God for giving strength to the disciples to wade through. Through the hymn, “Hong Leen Gige’n”,- Hold my hand, the congregation calls upon the Lord to help push through the turbulent waters of life.   As WT Mung takes the lead, the ushers bring in the offering bowl.  As the patriotic gospel all time hits, “Israel mite na pi bang in” and “A Hampha Pasian Mite” the worshippers sway in ecstasy . Dedication of the offering is done by Upa G. Khamkhanpau. Thereafter WT Lydia and WT Nemkhanmawi treated the audience with the inspiring item, “Kha Muanna Leh Lungmuanna Tou Jesu Kiang ah” – Jesus, custodian to peace in spirit and mind.
Upa Kam Suanthang takes the stand to conduct induction ceremony of new comers in the city: Due to various reasons only 9 out of 31 of the new inductees are able to make it to the stage. Encouraging them to keep in mind the purpose of their stay in Delhi and in Life, the Pastor prays for them.
As an expression of contentment in the loving arms of the Lord notwithstanding the geographical dislocation of any sort, the singspiration continues with “Lungdam lua ing Toupa”,  followed by “Pathian itna aw lian in sang”- The Love of God. WT Mung reminds the congregation about the value of redemption.     Looking forward to Paradise, and the day when one has the honor of holding the scarred hands of Jesus a Christian must keep up with true discipleship. The gospel song “Enven Ka Teen Nang Gamnuam”  penned by Evan Langh Do Khup, founder of Tears Gospel Ministry many years ago stirs up the soul. There the city of joy beckons disciples with ‘Tul Ngei Lou ding’ or everlasting joy. If the preceding hymns put the worshippers to absolute delight, the hymn, “Tul ngeilou” completely jolts out the as yet elusive arms and legs in rhythmic wonder.
As preliminary to inauguration of the documentary, ‘Acts of Worship’  by Worship Team, the Pastor enlightens the parishioners that it’s not about proficiency, nor a certification of oneself, but a simple message about the necessity of taking a step ahead even as we trod the path mission path bearing the Cross. There is bound to be discrepancies, which can only be done away with in subsequent efforts. He appreciates the fact that the WT has managed to come out with the product against odds like time constraint.   Facilitating God’s people to devote little bits of their precious time to the furtherance of the Gospel is a continuous endeavor of the Church. Some responsibilities in the Church are given through popular election, some through nomination. Success in any enterprise couldn’t have been possible in the absence of cooperation from all members.   The pastor specifically highlighted the need of a group of prayers. The system of volunteering has proven very encouraging, which is evident in Baptist Children Department. Volunteers need encouragement from each individual member as much as the same is required from the Pastor. Prior experience or qualification is not necessarily required. When you give your will, God qualifies you. He calls on stage the Worship Team to present the theme song, “Ka Mang Lenna” by the living legend .
The documentary is not for sale. The documentary which is a sweet piece of musical work is being distributed free through the church website. For God’s glory.   The Pastor formally inaugurates and tops the ceremony with prayer.   Thereafter website technician and member of Media Team Thangkhansiam Naulak, who has played major part in the making of the documentary, gives a highlight of certain shots of the documentary through multi-media display. The Pastor gives credit to the website technicians and Media Team of the Church in the making of the 90 minute documentary.   While the last hymn, “Leitung ka en kikhenna lungkhamna” is in progress Upa Kaithang emerges on stage. Before closing the worship in benediction he reads out the passionate music of David:1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him. Even as the worshippers are busy meeting the Pastor and Upas, the WT plunges back into another inspirational hymn to ring in the ears pending another assemblage of the disciples, another  Sunday, “Jesu hoih zaw hi”.

We Wrestled: All Night Long

It was around 11 PM on Thursday night, the 25th October, 2012. A leaflet containing a list of 21 points landed in my hands. That’s for the first round of entreaty. These are points to last for at least 2 and a half hours. And the points enunciated was detailed, which of course leaves space for being elaborate in the actual execution.
To wrestle with God we have seven hours over the 21 points plus personal confessions and the expression of concern for the social and political issues. That’s quite a task! Almighty God is on the other side of the communication line though.
Except for the soft drone of exhaust fans dispelling carbon dioxide the atmosphere in the well lit Church basement was tranquil. Initially I was apathetic to the issue of the upcoming annual conference being prayed for. In fact I'd never expected 40 disciples to turn up.
The 21 points within which the highlights ranging from the main speaker, the translator, the devotion leaders, the elders of the conference, the presentation of the Annual Report and administration of ordination and commissioning were encapsulated slowly made sense to me.
The fact that the duty of song leaders comes with opportunities liable to be misused calls for divine intervention. Similarly, the management and direction of choirs being presented before the spectators live, leaves room for intrusion of the evil one. So is election of all sorts, commissioning and ordination, the use of equipments, the weather, the hosting of, the delegates in and the beneficiaries of conferences of a large scale like the annual khawmpi lian of the EBCC in Lamka or of the Presbetarian Synod in Aizawl not free from the potential danger posed by the various departments of Satan’s syndicate. Hence the need to wrestle with Jehovah all night long.
James had wrestled with God and earned a new name. Truly night time is the right time for having fellowship with God even for the apostle Paul and Silas whence they got their freedom.
I had had a full dose of sleep since the departure of my brother’s family 24 hours ago. I was satisfied with the manner I help them during their stay in Delhi. God willing they’ll be reaching Manipur on Sunday the 28th October. So I was feeling fresh. Having myself equipped with these I was able to analyze everyone of the 21 points let alone grasp.
Soon I realized that my initial reaction on hearing about the scheduled night long prayer was immature.
I started to feel that the prayer might pick up tempo or it might not. It’s the act of physically showing concern that matters..

The Road to Sodom
EBCC Sunday Worship Service
Plot 16, Pocket-6, Nasirpur
Dwarka, Phase-1
December 02, 2012

Conductor Upa Thiankhanmuan takes the stand, welcoming the worshippers he turns to the scripture.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2     Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations
Having read out Psalms 100 he dedicates the worship service to the Holy Spirit.
At the end of the much eventful year 2012, the Worship Team (WT) leads the way to beseeching the Almighty in music and songs of praise- BNL 290 Tung Pathian Sehsa Damsung (God programmed period in life), Hon siamthak nawn in (Renew me O Lord) – and in Mass Prayer.  With the third hymn, the disciples call upon Jesus to blossom in their minds while the ushers collect the offering. A popular reminder of the coming of Christmas, “Na Mangtutphah leh Na Mang Lukhu” calls upon Jesus to shine in them just the way He shone in a manger leaving His Heavenly Throne and Crown. The offering is dedicated by Upa H. Kamsuanthang.
At a time the pastor and some elders spend their Sunday in Lamka for the 64th Annual Conference of the Church, the members of the Delhi EBCC are fortunate to have a guest speaker. As learnt at a later stage, the delegates from all over the country participating in the election of officers who would steer the Church for the period 2013-15 have elected the following:

BUSINESS CHAIRMAN - UPA T LANGZATHANG
BUSINESS VICE CHAIRMAN - UPA THIAUZAKHUP HANGZOU

REV M ZALIAN GUITE (Mizoram)

FIELD SUPERINTENDENTS
REV L KHAIKHANSONG (Manipur)
REV T PAUKHANMANG (Karbi)
REV N THAWNDOULIAN (Nepal)

With a formal introduction the conductor hands over the pulpit to the guest speaker. Rev Dr. Khaizakham, Principle, Evangelical College of Theology (ECT) might not be recognized by each and every one; at least the name is familiar. In deed the reverend had graced the Church several times in the past. One of his companions from the ECT Trio, Ms Themnu;  Chairman of the EOC, brother Sonpi Vaiphei;  and the Secretary brother Kh. Ginlalchung accompanies him. Unfortunately his son Khupsamlian Khaute who works as a missionary in Vietnam, gets stuck in the morning traffic. A missionary father obviously wants the eldest son to bear the cross with him. The reverend however never had coerced his son to follow him. And when the Sunday school teacher Rev Seikholun Singson informed him about the landmark decision taken by his son the reverend was brimming with pride.
In the midst of tight schedules – the speaker is  attending EOC worship service at 2.30 pm and thereafter at 5.30 pm he’s slated to share the word of God in Thadou in Kuki worship Service- he requests Ms Themnu herself hailing from a pastor family, to present 2 gospel songs of his own choice, in a row- ‘Zingkal teng a zingthou thei dia nong koih ziak in kakipak’ – Thank God for making me rise every morning, and ‘Toupa hon pan pih in kei leh ka inkuan te – Lord help me and my family. The presentation is gripping!

Fully alive to the fact that the eternal spirit of the chainless human mind is always commandeered by discretion, reverend gives the congregation a detailed guideline on how to be unsuccessful in life.  His message, ‘The Road to Sodom’ is based on the scripture in Genesis 19:12-14. He has a maxim: If you want evil follow Lot’s example, otherwise don’t.  Lot was left in childhood by his father. Uncle Abraham took care of him as his own son. Lot was given property, cattles, shepherds and servants. Everything was fine. But problem descended in the form of a quarrel between the shepherds of Lot and Abraham. They were compelled to live apart. Lot was given a choice between the hills and the valley.
The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here, 13 because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.”
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry[a] his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

The First Error.  Lot chose the valley of Sodom. He didn’t consult God. That presents a metaphor of making a choice the wrong way. If its folly asking God what to wear just after getting up in the morning, for a Christian woman, it’s certainly ideal to ask God what kind of clothes to buy. Parents need to think about what they ask for their kids. Youngsters need to think about what they use to ask. Earlier it’s a common zeal of a Christian to get a Bible degree for the most brilliant child in the family. With the passage of time and advancement in everything, our priorities are becoming more and more circumspect.
Kimpi, a member of the ECT Trio was courted by an American doctor for such a long time through his parents. But the Godly child wants to settle only if she meets someone with the same commitment. ‘I still want to stay in the Ministry for another 9 years, sorry!’ she says.
The Second Error. In a separate home, there is no evidence in the Bible of Lot having set up family alter. Very few Christian households are like that of Lot’s.  With a chapel and thousands of fellow Christians from Lamka itself, the Church members today can rightly chant about ‘How good The Lord is, to us’ leike Upa Chinsum does. The situation was somehow different when the speaker initially reached Delhi. In fact, he was able to locate the sole symbols of Christianity then, the World Vision office and place of worship, with so much hardship. And yet such fellowships and not the last thing a Christian needs.
The weekly worship services are not sufficient nourishment. From a Christian who works for 9 hours a day and 6 days a week, God wants rest of the week, plus rest of the day.
Brothers like Rev. Dongzathawng have started a movement, ‘Pray for Lamka’ in Shillong. These are steps in the right direction. Nobody gets to Sodom in one night. It’s a result of gradual inching that leads one to state of Sodom. One can go on without family alters. Even Lot was successful and respected in the new land, became member of the town council. And then something happened. There was fire. Today every Christian is inching toward the day of judgement.
God decided to burn Sodom. He first informed Abraham, friend of God! Abraham pleaded to God that Sodom be saved. God wants to see 50 righteous men, that’s not forthcoming. He came down to 45, not forthcoming, 30- No. 20-No. Then Abraham was confident of finding at least 10 righteous men, which mean six+Lot’s family. Even that was not forthcoming. It turned out that Lot had never cared to bear witness to the Gospel.
Lot was not worth uncle’s prayer. On learning about the imminent destruction of the city he informed his prospective son-in-laws of the same. They scoffed! Scoffed the man who never bear witness to the Gospel!
The speaker laments over the fact that while blaming the Meiteis for all ills, the Meiteis know the real culprits – our own people !
Post destruction, the speaker asks, what’s left of Sodom?  Nothing. The accumulation, the stolen wealth, are they worth the effort? What’s left of it?
He relates the story of a certain mister Aditi who hails from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Aditi couldn’t clear the Civil Services examination, lost all hope, climbed up the iron railings of the Yamuna river. At that moment a question struck him: are you going to die with all your vices? He went to Nepal, visited Buddhist stupas, found nothing worth learning. He then went to Shillong. When he went to Mizoram post acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, he was struck by the state of uncleanness of the Christian over there.
When Aditi confided his perception of Mizoram, the speaker Khaizakham was in Shillong. Fortunately, he knew a handful of families who walked hand in hand with God. After introducing Aditi to the families he assured him that there are some pockets where families are headed by Christ.
The reverend chooses the topic not because he has been given, but it is his burden. He closes his message with a prayer.
He is still effective and with a dash of added audacity than was present in him 25 years ago, he has become more awesome and likeable.
In fact I was full of appreciation for the reverend that I happened to buy a green half sleeve shirt, a perfect replica of the one he wore in one of his campaigns in my village.
Invoking the blessing of God to make the congregation not only the hearers, but set the message working in their personal lives, the conductor calls upon brother Sonpi Vaiphei to convey the gratitude of the EOC to cooperation they received in organizing the Spiritual Convention (Nov 29 to Dec 1)to EBCC and its Pastor V. Nenglian.

Pastor V. Nenglian prayed for them.
A melodious counseling from BCD Teachers to keep on the ‘Suny Side’ of life followed. In the same medium Beginner Class also expressed their desire to see their seniors ‘Happy All the Time’.
Worship in offering was dedicated by Upa T. Kaithang.
Upa Thiankhanmuan, Assistant Secretary to the TBSUC announced the (i) invitation to the Church made by Mangcha Phaltual, Mission Board Chairman of EOC at the betrothal ceremony of his daughter Miss Unity Phaltual at 2.30 pm on 7 December, 2013 at Mizoram House, Vasant Vihar; (ii) the marriage of Mr Phunggoutan s/o Upa Damsawmthang to be solemnized on 21 December, 2013 with Zamthianhoih d/o Thangkim Samte  at EBCC Vengnuam, New Lamka; and (iii) result of election for Tualsung Baptist Missions Committee (TBMC) and TB Dorcas Committee held on 17 November, 2013.
Lianding Guite reminded the congregation about the need to remain steadfast spiritually with his ‘Zesu a om’.
The Pastor had conducted counseling with the graduates the day before with a sumptuous finishing in KFC.
The 14 Sunday School (SS) teachers who facilitated the moment after painstaking teaching and mentoring were commended with a round of applause. The SS also has 3 guest lecturers, 2 from TBSUC and one from BYF (specifically assigned to teach tonic solfa once a month). A crusade was held for the children last year. Volunteers are called upon to enlist for SS Teaching work for the year 2014.
Then the Pastor welcomed the first timers.
An appropriately chosen topic of ‘Life Management’ requires of a person to (i) set priorities and (ii) implement goals, two of which always follow in that order.
The first priority is seeking the Kingdom of God, which will of course precede ‘all these thing’ in life. (Matt 6:13)
To Dr. Stroebel, an atheist the theory of creation had been nothing but a joke. But as he studied the scientific way in which life have come in to being, he was stuck with a question: who created atom? He had no answer. The result: he turned a Christian.
It’s one thing in life that matters. Jesus told Martha, “Only one thing is important” (Luke 10:41). Similarly the rich bachelor was told that in spite of his worldly possession, he still lacked one thing (Luke 10:21). In the same vein the Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians that he did only one thing (Philippians 3:13)
The Pastor closed the first session in prayer. That was followed by lunch break.

SECOND SESSION (1.30 pm onwards)
After a heartwarming session of praise and worship with live music accompaniment, ‘Conductor for the second session, Mr Nicky Ginlallian called upon the main speaker.
Lianding Guite is married to Zahminglian and is blessed with a son, Minglalven.
Having read Matthew 6:33, Guite laid down a more detailed sequence of ‘to do’ list:  God-Family-Work.
He threw a question to the worshippers: How do you read the Bible, with doubt or with faith?
Life is breathed into a clay figure which became man as a result thereof.
Then there was another question: Is there life after death? For it is appointed unto men to die and face judgment thereafter (Hebrews 9:27)
It’s not only Stroebels efforts, all labour, watchfullnesses or ingenuity are bound to go in vain except under the guidance of the Lord, who gives sleep to His beloved.( Psalms 127:1-2). No wonder Moses refused to leave unless God would go with him. What Solomon, the wisest man on earth did was to love the Lord ( 1 Kings 3:3). Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. All man has to do is abide in Him (St John 14:6; 15:4). For He and only He can give one ‘rest’ (Matthew 11:28).
There is a classic example of curse as a result of disrespect of holy places. King Uziah was stuck with leprosy for having stepped temple protocol. In Joshua Achan was hiding expensive materials found in the place over run by the Israelites. Even King Saul was fascinated at the sight of livestock belonging to the enemy. But the Lord said, “Obedience is better than sacrifice”( Samuel 15 King).
The Israelites bumped upon a well of bitter water in the desert (Exodus 15). King Belshazzer was stuck with mental tension at the time of holding a grand feast (Daniel 5). There was bloodshed in David’s household (Samuel). During the time of Peter Anania and his wife Sapphira hid a piece of the sale proceeds of their property, which they were not supposed to ( Acts 5). That’s an invitation to God’s wrath.
To keep God as the first priority in life is-
Blessing for Abraham; Safety for Noah; health and freedom for Daniel and his 3 friends; a good way to build up one’s career for Joseph; success for Phrophet Nehemiah; peace even with enemy for Saint Paul
So why would a man betray God who has so much in store for man ? (Jeremiah 29:11)
Who is God??
The foundation of the earth (Hebrews 1:10)
God is big and powerful while man is tiny and helpless. How much time do you dedicate for God?
Before one’s mortal body comes to an end one must acknowledge the indispensability of God and be able to say, ‘Thy word is a lamp unto my feet’ (Ps 119:105)
There are three kinds of people:-
(i)                  Those who say ‘I’ before being born again;
(ii)                Those who say ‘I’ even after ; and
(iii)               Those who say ‘Christ’ after being born again
For the last category, there is a promise: Blessed is everyone that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways (Psalms 128:1)
Thereafter praise continued with –
‘I love You Lord’ (Primary); Prince of Pease (Junior)
The graduates are given the honor of addressing the congregation to same something about their experience or expectations.
Response-I
Ms Bliss Ningnem requested the Church to pray for her in her endeavors to stick to God amid the racist taunts and all the trials and tribulations in life ahead of her.
And praise resumed with-
Here I am to Worship (Ms Chingthianhoih); Jesus loves me this I know (Ms Manhoihching)
Response-II
Mr Lianthiansiam gave thanks to SS teachers for all the things they do for him. He enjoyed classes on tonic solfa and was excited to be in BYF.
Praise continued with-
This is my desire-musical (Primary); Ka Hinna Aw Toupa Phat in- Praise The Lord My Life (Ankang Band);
Response-III
Ms Nemthianmoi said that she’d miss SS, the teachers and their creativity. She was moved by Superintendant’s line that there are good marks, bad marks and failures which are not as important as keeping the lessons learnt therein in life.
Praise continued with-
10000 Reasons (Intermediate); Halleluijah (Sangi, Julie and Biaksang)
Response-IV

Praise continued with-
Medley (Senior); and Above All (Ms Sarah)
Response-V

Praise continued with-
Thildang Tampi te Sang Hong It zaw I Toupan (Sangi and her baby sister); and All Around Me (Muanching).
Response-VI
Ms Niangthianching spent a little time and learnt a lot in Delhi, thanked her teachers at home and in Delhi and made a prayer request for her future.
Praise continued with-
I Believe (Sangkim & Ngaimuan)
Due to paucity of time, prize distribution was postponed for the next Sunday.
In giving Vote of Thanks, Sianmang acclaimed the contributions of –(i) Richard Khuptong for having sponsored and designed the banners and brochures for the occasion; (ii) Padded Cell for generously lending musical instruments; and Muanlal and Paulalsiam for playing the music for the praise and worship.  On his request the Superintendant, L/Upa Thangson presented a memento to the main speaker Mr. Lianding Guite.
The worshippers were blessed with benediction from Upa Chinsum.

Time 11.00 AM
EBCC Delhi, Dwarka
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use
their hands to do evil.Lord, do good to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart.
But those who turn to crooked ways
the Lord will banish with the evildoers.Peace be on Israel.

The Pastor opened the worship service in prayer. Worship in hymns followed. Sunday offering collected in the meantime was dedicated by Upa Khamgoupau.
Normally no one wants to miss the first worship service of the month. As instructed in 1 Timothy 2, the pastor prayed for each member of the Church as they rose to receive divine blessing.
Upa Thiankhanmuan, Assistant Secretary to TBSUC handed over Baptismal Certificates to the following:-
(i) Ms H. Nemthianmawi d/o H. Thangsiam
(ii)Ms Doihthianching d/o Vanlallian Valte
(iii) Mr Thangsonmung Tosing s/o T. Chinkhokam.
Reading out 1 Samuel 1:24-25 pastor performed dedication of infant Mr Joshua Lianmuanlal Valte s/o Singkhanlun Valte of Mohamedpur.
Sermon: Growing in faith is the precondition for ‘His will being done on earth’. Doing God’s will hinges on faith in Him without which work in the service of God merely defines a person as a moralist. As stated in the scripture, faith as a grain of mustard seed has the potential to shift the location of a mulberry tree (St. Luke 17:5-6) or of a hill (Mark 4:31).
Two questions follow from such discourse - (i) why is there a need for the faith to grow; and (ii) how to enable the faith to grow? faithlessness is something that may happen. But the one who loses faith deserves to bear a heavy burden. It would be in his interest to be sunk down in the depths of the sea with a heavy lead fastened in his neck. The reasons necessitating growth in faith: (i) to have the power to forgive and have the right kind of bonding with others; and (ii) to be able to perform miracles. This is evident from the episode in the life of Jesus as found in St. Matthew 23 wherein Jesus was encountered with a painful truth;  on his return from the Mount of Transfiguration He came to know from a man with his ailing child by his side that his disciples are not able to perform miracles. Hence the reproach- O Thou whose faith are retarded. Mere belief is not enough. Belief+ Faith is the ingredient for a saving faith. The need to grow in faith for a greater service to God cannot be over emphasized.
In a nut shell, we as Christians need the right kind of environment (the scientific equivalent of soil); obedience (the scientific equivalent of water); and the Love for God (the scientific equivalent of Sun) for growing in faith.
Thereafter the pastor briefly reminded the concerned members about the inter-departmental joint fellowship scheduled to be held on Saturday, the 8th February, 2014; and the briefing session for members and Media Team and BYF Fellowship right after the worship service ends.
The worship service concluded with blessing from Upa Thiankhanmuan through benediction. Audio version of the sermon is accessible through this link- a khangtou ginna-sermon

House Arrest

Page one of the Hindustan Times daily today carries a heading, “Non-locals put under ‘house arrest’ in Manipur”. I had to put down my coffee cup. Without going into details I made up a mental picture of a riot breaking out and the people with authority imposing curfew to secure the safety of the mayangs (outsiders) by imposition of curfew.

It may be recalled that northeasterners living in Delhi have a renewed sense of insecurity in the wake of the death of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania following an assault on January 29, the rape of a minor girl from Manipur, a brutal attack against on brothers while they went to buy vegetables and the stabbing of a youth belonging to Manipur, all within a span of two weeks. Even the Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh met home minister Sushil Kumar Sindhe and other central leaders in connection with the ‘recist’ attacks in Delhi.

I have seen and experienced the ability to the Meiteis (non-tribals) to handle complex situations. They have undergrounds and overgrounds which seemed to work in tandem. In a situation of atrocities carried out against people from the northeast, I knew that the finesse of the Meiteis will come to the rescue some time or another. Perhaps there was mob frenzy in Imphal and perhaps the authorities reacted by imposition of curfew. That’s what I thought. And I read on-

“Reacting to the frequent ‘racial attacks’ on northeastern people in New Delhi, students’  organisations in Manipur enforced a ‘curfew’ to keep non-locals indoors from 5am on Wednesday”.
Reacting to the racial attacks? Was it a mob that reacted? Am I reading about mob violence? Are we on the verge of a civil war? And the HT report goes on-
“The 19-hour ‘curfew’ virtually put under house arrest roughly 5000,000 non-Manipuris in Imphal and adjoining areas. Most of the non-locals are traders in central government or private sector jobs. Shops and businesses establishments run by non-Manipuris remained closed while non-local students skipped schools and colleges. This followed the ‘curfew’ call by the Joint Students’ Coordination Committee (JSCC) restricting all outdoor activities including movement of non-Manipuris”
Surely there is something wrong! And the report quoted a certain Laishram Reagan, who happens to be a student leader (not a mobster) as saying, “We took the step to protest the racial attacks and discrimation against people from the Northeast in mainland India, especially the metros” And here’s is another line uttered by the spokesperson of JSCC, “We will intensify our agitation if our demand for enactment of law to fight racial crimes is not met”
Even though the report is silent on what exactly is the proposed law, still am in a positive state of mind because the JSCC spokesperson spoke about a law.
Then another question came to my mind. If JSCC has drafted legislation, will the Republic of India make it into a law because some Biharis and Marwaris are held hostage by the popular student body in Imphal? Personally, I don’t think so. But may be the JSCC leaders hold the view that something is better than nothing. Is there no other way to impress the Government about the need for legislation? This I don’t know. I never knew any solution to the problem. Even so I never lose hope.
As I have said earlier, the finesse of the Meiteis is what I have been looking forward to all these years. In fact the Meiteis are able to withhold the benefits of the provisions of the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India for 40 years. For a race of their standard the act of holding mayangs hostage to demand enacting of a law seems a bit too clumsy.
Even the rhetoric against the mayangs is ingriguing. The target of racial discrimination in the mainland is unmistakable- the chinkies. But when it comes to the perpetrators, at least as far as the recent cases are concerned, it does not seem proper to point fingers at the mainstream Indians as a whole. In a diverse country like India, not only the northeasterners, but most residents feel insecure in Delhi and other metros, which is why people have adapted to certain norms which look odd to the free minds of the northeasterners.

If Ronaldo failed in the group stage, Messi didn't find a space in the German defence either.
Amid the 8.30 hours time difference between Brazil and India, the FIFA World Cup 2014 sprung up surprises that Delhi was literally left stunned all through the event.
When Arjen Robben’ twisting turns and merciless shots stole the cool out of Iker Casilas, the Spanish Armada seemed to run out of fuel. The awesome symphony of 2010 might still rock, but times are a changing. There is technology, there is genius, intensity and above there is anger. And they raged on. The bloody Dutch!
If talent grows from trees in Brazil, a Mexican cowboy left them stunned. Guillermo Ochoa could have been in any western film playing the honky-tonk man in a Mexican bar. But he had a spirit that's irrepressible for most of the time Mexico plays. And when Neymer, David Luiz and Thiago saw the final whistle with tongues hanging out, he was as fresh as a daisy. Because the FIFA World Cup 2014 is a world cup of Goal Keepers.
When the USA played Belgium Tim Howard made a world cup record of 15 saves. For the entire tournament the performance of Costa Rica's Kaylor Navas was remarkable with 21 saves out of 23 shots.

Missionary Day, the 3rd May, 2015, 11.00 am

Two years ago he was in a hurry. He is still in a hurry. Said he has aged, the gospel can't wait. Among his scripture references like Deuteronomy 11: 26-28 about blessing and curse; 28: 1, 23&24; 1 Samuel 2: 7&8Ps. 75:6&7 about how the Lord lifts up one and suppresses the other; Ps 119: 130Isaiah 9:21 2 Peter 2:9&10 about being chosen;Joshua 13:1 when Joshua was old even as much work remained; Proverb 15:21&24; and his oft quoted verses as Director (Missions) of the Church of Proverbs 24:11 and Jude 1: 23 figured again as Rev. L. Khamkholun spoke on the occasion of the Missionary Day, which is celebrated on the Sunday falling nearest to 10 May of the year. This year the day falls on the on the 3rd May, 2015.
At a time Watkin Roberts, the Wales Missionary, stationed in Aizawl, was in financial distress a friend from England sent 5 pound (one pound is equal to INR 98.91 as on 8.5.2015). He used the money to print the Gospel of John and distributed the copies in the hills. Chief of Senvon Kamkholun Singson showed interest in the contents of the book. He sent for the Missionary to come over and explain the Gospel.  Watkin Roberts considered it a Macedonian Call (Acts 15:-18:22), took two guides, Thangkhai and Lungpau. The team was helped by a Meitei to cross the swollen Raknamkai (Tuivai) river with a rafter. On arrival of the tall and handsome Englishman the natives are said to have ducked and gaped from underneath the bushes.
A pioneer of the Gospel in the Guite Kual, Thangvang (born in 1871)was studying in Aizawl about the same time under the guidance of Rev. D.E. Jones. He preached the Gospel in a Gangte village in 1912 and was subsequently appointed evangelist teacher in 1914 for Guite Kual. There he taught children about the three R's till June, 1915. From July that year onwards, he proceeded to set up a Church. Subsequently the first Church in the Paite inhabited area was planted in the year 1916 in Phaitong village. Thangvang had 5 children, the eldest of whom settled in Gangpimual. Thangvang died on Good Friday, the 15th April, 1960, at the age of 89.
The Paites have benefitted from the Gospel and the accompanying blessing by grabbing high administrative posts in the Government of India. Jelshyam from Teikhang village and Dongzathang from Savaipaih village, who went on to become IAS and IRS officers respectively, are glaring examples.
All these are the results of the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ and His disciples from around the world.
Contribution made for missionary work never go in vain, instead gets accumulated as wealth in Heaven. Earthquakes like the one in Nepal on the 25th of April, claimed so many lives (lost souls) and property. Even buildings in Bangalore, the southern most part of the sub-continent have cracks in them. Even Delhi is said to be in the seismic zone. Hence the need to invest God's Church and Missionary work. Gadgets like computers and phones have become instruments of death. Thus the scripture in Proverbs 24:11, says, "Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter"

A Sunday after celebration of Mothers' Day, Pastor Biakson gave a sermon about mothers once over again. In fact the theme for the month is "Nute leh Pi-le-Pute" meaning mothers and grand parents. This time the pastor emphasized the role of mothers in the upbringing of children.
Every woman wants to be a precious and wise mother. But when some fundamental elements of wife's duty toward her husband is missing, they fail to shine as mothers. Such mothers are simply shocked about their progenies' indiscipline and wayward behavior.
There is an expected template of husband-wife relationship upon which parenting ought to be carried on the Christian way.
The Holy Bible emphasizes the virtue of women whose humility and consistency were so remarkable that such women had the potential to convince even unbelieving husbands into believing. A wife who is good in all respects is naturally a good mother. In the contemporary society, outside beauty acquired through jewellery and other adornments is over emphasized in the disregard of inner beauty, which is the one and only beautiful thing before God.
Jacobed was married to her brother's son and out of the marriage Aron and Moses were born. Then came Pharoah's order that all of male babies be killed. While many parents failed to realize the preciousness of their progenies and melted away under the threat of Pharoah's orders, Jochebed accorded first priority to the safety and security of her child Moses. In fact Moses' greatness is testimony to her mothers' tireless devotion. She trained and brought up him and instilled the spirit of love for the nation. Therefore even as he was in the midst of the riches and splendour of Egypt, Moses never forget his roots and his identity. Eventually he gathered the courage to leave Egypt thus ascribing greatness to his mother Jochebed.
As long as a mother is strong, she is bound to reap similar benefits as enjoyed by Jochebed.
Another biblical example of a virtuous woman is Hannah, one of the wives of Elkanah. God shut her womb. Peninnah, the other wife of Elkanah looked down upon her, drove her to the point of losing her patience and denouncing her principle. She cried out to God.
God had counted the tear drops that Hannah cried in Shiloh, broken.
After crying tears in brokenness, Hannah was given a son. And as she had promised, she dedicated her son, Samuel to the service of God. Great sacrifice for today's standard!
Every mother appreciates full time ministry, but the number of mothers committing their kids to full time ministry is dwindling. Instead some of them misdirected the kids who show signs of interest towards the gospel.
God wants every mother to be like Jochebed and Hannah.

Pentecost Day Sermon EBCC Delhi 24.5.2015 11 am and 4 pm

The significance of the Pentecost Day, the 50th day from the resurrection of Jesus, one of the five important festivals of the Jews is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believers. Some groups of the evangelicals generally accept that baptism by the Holy Spirit is necessary, but not as a pre-requisite.
Spiritual Gifts
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit; differences of ministries, but the same Lord; diversities of activities, but the same God who works all in all.  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:  for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,  to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.  But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 gives hints about how to identify the real spirit from that which is not real. In fact, many people accepted that Jesus is an extraordinary person, but not all believe that He is a messiah.
The Gift of the Pentecost Day is permanent. The Holy Spirit make the believers work through that gift. Speaking in tongues is no doubt, a great spiritual phenomenon, yet when one is not filled with the spirit such power becomes redundant.
Peter in his sermon, said, "In order to get forgiveness of sin, repent and be baptized in Jesus' name" That baptism is viewed as a ceremonial ritual by the evangelicals, which is administered on being a disciple, but not on being born again.
As found in the book of Saint John, Jesus did not come to condemn but to save the world. In the same vein Joyce Meyer says that faith is much more the gift of God than the condition for salvation. Being able to believe is the gift of God, which is naturally accompanied with the art of discerning spirits.
Purpose of the spiritual gifts
There is the biblical mandate to serve one another so that 'you may be qualified to live like the real saints'; and in order to love others, believers are given the gift of the Holy Spirit i.e. to equip to be mature in the likeness of Jesus.
The conditions
Paul in his second epistle, has reminded Timothy about the need to fan into flame the gift of God that is in him. One need to be full of the spirit and walk hand in hand with God.
Exhorting the Romans torender humble service in the body of Christ, the Apostle Paul said, "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought to, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Therefore when God has given spiritual gift one should not make it ineffective by one's attitude.
Talent is either hereditary or is attained through fellowship with God. God, in certain cases patronizes the latent talent of the person which happens when the person surrenders the same to Him, and in other cases, sidelines it and equip the believer with an all together new set of talent.

Honoring Grand Dads and Moms at 11.00 am and 4.00 pm 31 May, 2015 at EBCC Church, Delhi

When God gives years of life He has a purpose. He wants man to testify to His faithfulness. David, a King of Israel, had been young, been old, yet never seen the righteous or their children begging for bread (Proverbs 37:25). The author of the book of Hebrews exhorted the Christians to keep their lives from greed for God never leaves nor forsakes His children.
God has a promise of strength (Isaiah 46:4); wisdom (Job 12:12); and honour (Proverbs 23:22).
The Bible has chronicled an instance of a 15 year extension of the life of Hezekiah through prayer as in 2 Kings 20:5&6.
The ideal Christian stance of an aged man and woman is drawn from the words of David in Proverbs 71:18 that says, " Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation.
The literal honouring of the Grand dads and grand moms took place at 4.00 pm. Out of the 15 aged people expected, 11 were able to make it to the 4 pm service arranged for the 65 plus Church members. They shared their testimony and perspectives of life.
1.            Upa Biakvel (75)- father-in-law of Upa Thangkhosiam, is from a Presbyterian background responded to the honour with soft voice. He had set out from Mimbung village for medical treatment, never thought that he would need to proceed from Aizawl to Delhi on March 4, 2015. He attended every Church service (of EBCC Delhi) during his stay. In spite of his feeble qualification, he had been anointed elder/upa by the Church in the year 1994. He considered the day's honour as God's plan in his life.
2.            As for Chingnu Ngaihte w/o Upa B. Langkham the honour conferred by the Church's governing board is a precursor of the honour beckoning her in Heaven. She'd been through much difficult times conceiving, delivering and raising children. She was emotional about the period between the years 1985 and 1988 which according to her was a period of perforation scare threatening a possible surgery in her body. She prayed along with a pastor and two friends. She had experienced many miracles. Over her prayer for granting 50 years of life, she had just turned 65 !! That testifies to God's love and grace shown to her. Living apart from her husband due to his work demands, she made the best use of her time. In fact she is instrumental in the relentless publication and circulation of Ruth Messenger and got various books written in English published in vernacular language.
She had trespassed God's command many a times which got overlooked by God as many times. Her spiritual life is aptly summed up by Lun Thomte's gospel song, 'Jesu Nang vang in', the chorus of which loosely translated goes like this-
How great is the love of My Lord, His love for a sinner like me so deep and high, condemned to die, yet His love, Suffered Him death upon the Cross for me.
3.            Pastor retired Thanglian f/o Linda T. Pauli, is leaving Delhi for Manipur in a short while. Hopes that he'd be heading heavenwards therefrom. For 21 years his father had served the Lord. He read his father's biographies. He heard a call- won't you continue the legacy, which he responded in a positive way. He warned Christians about the danger of joining the ministry without full baked commitment. The strength to challenge the sheep/parishioners with the attitude of , '... me and my household will serve the Lord' as found in Joshua 24:15 is of utmost necessity.
The self taught, Government school educated man was sent to Mualnuam village for a paltry pay of INR 40/- per month wherein  he happened to cause the wrath of the village chief's cabinet. Consequently he was summoned by Dorcas Hall (the headquarters of the Church) located in Lamka and advised to ignore social work and concentrate only on his teaching job. From being a teacher he was sent for a full time ministry. At the height of his service as a pastor, he looked after 29 villages from his station at Songtal and later sobered down to a single parish of Lamkatung. God saved so many lost souls through him.
The retired Pastor said that transfer and postings within the Church should be understood as God's dispensation. Even with a questionable fluency in Mizo language he served at Aizawl as local pastor post retirement 2004. He never regret his commitment in life. It had always been his maxim that " whatsoever ye do, work heartily, as unto the Lord and not unto men". He warned about the tendency to doubt the genuineness of the Holy Bible in a modern society which underscores the need of good and highly educated people in the Ministry.
4.            Donzaching m/o Chingkhojam was short and crisp in acknowledging the good work done by God through the Church. She sang, 'Lord I'll hold your hand and walk with you without murmuring'
5.            Upa Daizapau f/o Biaka of Safdarjung Enclave, was emotional over how he'd utilize his remaining years. He counseled that one should always surrender one's life to the Almighty God.
6.            Khamkhochiin m/o Mami, came from the tough life of Bukpi village. She was overjoyed to be honoured by the Church.
7.            Thangmuan Khuptong f/o Thuamzalal exclaimed Ebenezer! In fact he was hardly educated but always attended the Church as a child. He still remembered some of the Church elders say that the offering collected on sundays was for the heathen (gammial).
7.            V. Dongzathang IRS (retired) f/o L/Upa Vumlunmang, saying that the best appetizer is hunger, reminds the congregation in lighter veins, about the tea and snacks awaiting. He was proud of his 65+ year, claimed that age is something no one can extort from you. Heroes are remembered with epitaphs. In making one such epitaph, the artists and relatives of the expired recalled an instance wherein the man was spotted sitting in the front row of the Church. The 65+ also related a story about an illiterate man who was fired from his job in the Church and went on to become a cigarette tycoon. Asked what would he have been had he been educated, the cigarette tycoon replied that he would be a Church janitor!
8.            Upa Chalau, f/o Mungte, thanked God and the Church's governing board (TBSUC) for the honour given to him.
9.            Upa B. Langkham prayed the previous night so that he wouldn't sound boring at the honouring ceremony. He was still delirious about the fact that that the revival in Wales (UK) happened to infect Manipur hills through Mizoram, an undeniable evidence that God had chosen the tribe of Paite, who, unlike other scheduled tribes, are hardly represented in any legislative body. Even at the moment of such a poor show in law making platforms, generations of useful officers are dotting the  administrative offices of Indian Government. One of the most successful doctors in the country, he still remembered his extremely precarious health condition while being in high school. So he was in a why me Lord? mode as he intensively praised God. He winded up his speech with a counsel that every one ought to receive the love of God. Nothing else matters !
Pastor V. Nenglian announced that:
1.            In class X and XII the following had inadvertently been left out in the Gamchiam vol XVII/No. 05 dated May 31, 2015: Ms Manthianhoih d/o Thianzalal; and Hau Joseph s/o Thangsiam.
2.            BYF Summer Retreat at Sattal is being organised from 24 to 27 June, 2015 where 3 buses are likely to be deployed
3.            Wedding Ceremony scheduled to take place at EBCC Hebron Church, New Lamka on 21 June, 2015, every one invited.

Sermon of Rev. (retired) Thanglian on 6.6.2015

At 4.00 pm Rev. (retired) Thanglian took the dais at EBCC Delhi. The septuagenarian had been on stage two times in the past. His delayed homeward journey was God's way of communicating His will to him. He spoke about the vanity of Christian deeds not based on the love of Jesus Christ. He took the case of a seething elder in the Church whose contribution in the construction of the Church building was not sufficiently acknowledged, said the Church ought to be an organism and not a social organization. In contrast to apostle Paul's affection for the Church of Philippi, the Church of Corinthians were said to have been notorious for their lack of the Love of Christ and ultimately their arrogance.

Paul was put in judicial custody in an unfair manner on flimsy charges.  The charges stemmed from an intramural religious debate.

EBC Church like the Corinthians, is not rooted in the love of Christ. Delhi is witness to cases of live-in relationships. The spiritual highs and harmonious music of praise, the prophecy, mysteries and knowledge and the faith strong enough to remove mountains, are nothing in the absence of love as stated in 1 Corinthians 13:2.

That a Church's platform has come under much abuse is pointed out by the retired reverend by highlighting the possibility or tendency of young boys or girls joining choruses just because of their someone special joining.

There was spiritual revival in Wales (England) in 1904-05 which is no more in the modern time with a good number of Church Buildings being abandoned. It is found that materialism; hero worship; and laymen's power wielding tendency, cause the decadence in Christianity. The speaker wondered whether the attitude of indifference to one another could have been the by-product of such apostasy in the contemporary Church. Even in in Kamkatung Church, on an average only 1000 parishioners attend the Church services against the total population of 4000.

New Delhi, Dated 2nd September, 2015
To,
The Hon’ble Prime Minister,

Government of India

Subject: Request for immediate intervention on the atrocities perpetrated on the tribal people in Manipur.

Hon’ble Sir,

The Manipur Tribals Forum, Delhi like to bring the following facts for your kind perusal and necessary action.

1.  That, on 31 August, 2015, the Manipur Assembly passed three bills following sustained protests in the Manipur valley districts demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system for the State. The three bills, taken together, will directly undermine the existing safeguards for the tribal ‘hill areas’ regarding land-ownership and population influx as the primary threat for the tribal people comes not from outside the state but the valley Meitei people itself. The tribal people have made their opposition to the Meitei demands clear. But, the tribal people were never consulted by the ‘Joint Committee’ which have been spearheading the demands, nor the Manipur Government which accepts them. The tribal MLAs in the Assembly, fearing for their lives, dare not oppose the Bills when the Bills were introduced and passed in the Assembly.

2. That, the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), comprising of all tribal MLAs, which was set up under Article 371C of the Constitution to protect tribal interests and whose concurrence is mandatory for all legislation affecting tribal areas, was summarily brushed aside.

3. That, this instance has sparked off a strong opposition from all the tribal people of Manipur across the state. It flared up emotion into violent reaction against their representative tribal MLAs. The state government, instead of explaining the contents of the amendment and pacifying the agitators used its naked forces to suppress the tribals causing widespread atrocities, untold miseries, and uncontrolled human rights violation across the hills.

4. That, the brutal reaction of the state forces against the peaceful mass agitation has caused the loss of precious lives of eight people and several number of the agitators were left with serious injury. In a clear case of daylight repression the state forces used real bullets to disperse the protesters. Your Honour might have seen various reports in the national media and social media networks testifying to the brutality of the state forces in dealing with the situation.

5. That, the incident of passing the Bill and its brutal suppression of the tribal agitators, State Government has shown its real intention to grab the lands of the tribal people which has been so far protected by the Constitution of India. It also shows a clear case of the present Ibobi government’s incompetency to govern the state.

We, the Manipur Tribals Forum, Delhi, therefore demand from the Government of India:

i). To immediately impose President’s Rule in Manipur

ii). To punish those state security forces involved in the brutal killing of the agitators.

iii). To immediately withdraw the Manipur Police commandos from all tribal areas and if need be, deploy central forces.

iv). Restoration of all villages transferred to valley district to their original hill districts.

v). To expeditiously act on the demands for ‘separate administration’ for the tribal areas of Manipur. This is a proof, if any more are needed, that the hill tribals and the plain Meiteis cannot live together under one administration.

Yours Sincerely,

On behalf of the Manipur Tribals Forum, Delhi

The Hindu Editorial dated 3.9.2015 stated:-

The crisis in Manipur stems from the demand to stop ‘outsiders’ from buying land in the State, in a context where the local population, predominantly the Meiteis, harbours fears of being marginalised. The valley constitutes only 10 per cent of the State’s geographical area and Meiteis constitute about 50 per cent of the population there. The long-standing demand has been to introduce a system similar to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in other northeastern States, or some similar stipulation, to stop in-migration. But for this to be effective, the State needs to identify the ‘outsiders’ first. But that is a complex issue anywhere in the northeastern region as the borders are largely porous and the Government of India has not done enough to check the passage of people across them. One reason this was not done was to protect the state’s own interest: for a long time now, a section of the immigrants have been engaged to counter local insurgent groups. But as the demand for an ILP escalated, a cut-off year of 1951 was determined in the new Bills passed on Monday in order to identify outsiders. However, one of them, the Protection of Manipur People’s Bill, and two amendments, have been opposed by the tribal organisations, which claim control of the Manipur Hill districts. These are chiefly groups of Kukis, Mizos and Chins. They feel insecure as many of them who came to Manipur after 1951 or whose lineage may not meet the list of criteria set out in the Bills, could now be legally identified as ‘outsiders.’ Many of them also believe a rumour that the two amendments would be valid in the Manipur Hills districts, which is untrue.

The issues might not have escalated had the State government consulted the Hill Areas Committee before passing the Bills in order to clear any misunderstanding. Neither the organisation that had led the pro-ILP movement nor any of the tribal organisations was approached for any kind of dialogue. The pro-ILP movement was mostly confined to the Valley districts, while the people in the Hills isolated themselves, assuming and arguing that they were protected from outsiders under existing laws. As the tensions grew in the absence of dialogue, political groups added fuel to the fire to try and topple the Congress-led government and invite President’s Rule. Hence, it is not any genuine fear of becoming marginalised but realpolitik that is playing out in the hills of Manipur. But from any perspective, this is a dangerous portent for all the northeastern States. The Centre and the State need to come forward quickly to engage the people and figure out a solution to the crisis in order that it won’t go out of control.

The details of report for the month of September, 2015 from the Nepal Mission Field is given below:

24th Field Conference 2015 completed without any problem After EBC Nepal Missions Field was entitled to hold a conference, the 24 Field Conference was held at Birtamode  on 29 & 30 September, 2015. Rev. K. Kamchinkhup, Director of Ministries, EBC served spiritual food based on the theme of "A Christian Family Acceptable to God". All the sermons were appropriate for the local condition and enjoyable. Hymns were sang instead of the traditional ones which served to test the viability of applying the under production Nepali version of the normal song books.
During the Business Hour, the conference resolved on the following:

1.            A budget of Rs. 30 lakh (Nepali) was passed which includes pay and allowances of the regular workers and is planned to be generated from the Church members.
 2.           Two Upas/elders , Elder Yogendra Bazgai and Shyam Rai were ordained.
3.            Co-opting and declaration of 6 New Fellowships under NEBC
4.            Plan for establishment of at least 2 field stations in West Nepal during the year 2016.
5.            Speedy completion of the Church and quarters building under construction and taking steps to own Church building by those not yet having one.
6.            Granting of permission to elect upa/elder to 5 villages during the year 2016.
7.            Pastor Tikaram Thapa and family was felicitated by the conference with a memento for having sponsored 3 native missionaries.
8.            Scrutiny and adoption of Audit reports. Auditors are assigned from Field Offices to various villages which is also re-checked in the Field office itself before laying before the conference.
9.            In spite of the conference being planned only for delegates, the final head count came to 113
With God's kindness and the unstinted prayers from the Churches of EBCC, the conference was completed even as there was so much of consternation and unrest in Manipur and Nepal. Special thanks to God and the praying fellow Churches.

II. Christians always thriumph in prayerNepal has promulgated a new constitution on September 20, 2015. Various theories are floated in this connection. One such theory believes that backed by the Indian Hindus, some elements in the Nepali society tried to make the country a Hindu nation. The obvious target being the Christians, the need for a lot of prayer was felt by the Mission Field.
1.            Nepal has a Federal Democratic Secular state Opposing the existence of a secular state, the orthodox Hindus conducted campaigns . But the more they tried the more they failed. Because the campaigns only served to show the fact that a large mass of the populace was not Hindus. Each and every community asserted their respective beliefs. A plebiscite showed a two-thirds majority aspiring a secular state. We owe a depth of gratitude to the Lord for giving us religious freedom.
 2.           Threats to Christians One night before the promulgation of the Nepali Constitution, the Hindu Morch Nepal placed 4 bombs in the Churches, 2 of which went off. Fortunately  there was no death or injury.  The Morcha spread the word that the locals Christians should return to the Hindu fold and missionaries should go back and that refusal would invite large scale violence and death. They warned that the Churches be burned down. The Church members held fervent prayers and believers at various places also interceded the almighty God. As a result such violence as apprehended, did not occur. Instead the police arrested three of the leaders of activists who placed bombs in the Churches.
 3.           Increase in number of Believers Contrary to the apprehension of a Hindu backlash against the imposition of religious freedom, a high class family from pathari NEBC commit themselves to God and burned their magic ornaments on October 2, 2015. Similarly on October 3, 2015 a family committed themselves to God.

Sunday Sermon on 4.10.2015
EBCC Delhi

Obedience to Authorities

The pastor stressed the fact that the zomis should remember their numerical inferiority while going ahead with their indeavours in things like politics. Zomis are tribes and harbouring hopes of becoming a great nation, which they are not yet.

Amid the turmoil in Manipur with repercussions elsewhere throughout the country and even in New York in the wake of the passage of the 3 Land Bills in Manipur Assembly on the 31st August, 2015 and the ensuing violence and bloodshed, the pastor recalled the Divine Right Theory of Kings as written in the Romans 13:1-7.

Hence the Parliamentarians and legislators are servants of God.

The Sadducees who had command over the temples during the Roman rule of Israel, accepted the colonial rule and caused the ire of the zealots like the Pharisees.

Thus the Holy Bible has recommended submission to the governing authorities who are established/ordained by God. By that logic, rebellion is not between human beings but rebellion against God which attracts judgement.

However, two instances of disobedience of the authorities are recorded in the Bible:

(i)         Healing of the lame beggar by Peter and John by saying "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk" (KJV) They were told to shut up about the miracle. But Peter and John replied, "Which is right in God's eyes: to listen to you, or to Him? You be the judges !"

(ii)        Daniel, one of the three administrators under king Darius of Babylon, distinguished himself over his colleagues. Eventually the king appointed Daniel to rule over the entire 120 satraps which made other two administrators jealous of Daniel. They convinced the King to issue an edict that all prayers should be made to the king and no other gods. Daniel on hearing the news, went home, opened his windows towards Jerusalem. Three time a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to God, just as he had done before.

Daniel ended up in lion's den where miraculously, he was not bitten.

Coming Sunday 11.10.2015, a discussion on 'Patriotism and the Church' is planned in place of the Bible Study normally held at 9.30 am in the basement of the Church

I. THE CHARTER OF DEMAND IS NOT BAD ALTOGETHER
As a member of some whatsapp groups, I witnessed the broad wishes of the groups for-
1. implementation of the provisions of the 6th schedule of the constitution of India in the hill districts of the state; and
2. insertion of specific clauses in the 3 Bills (The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Amendment Bill, 2015; and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2015, passed by the Manipur Assembly on 31.8.2015 in the interest of the tribals.

As I go through the comprehensive Charter of Demands as brought out by the Joint Action Committee against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC), I like just it for specific reasons like-
Deletion of deceptive phrase:-
The disgusting phrase of 'who have contributed to the collective social, cultural and economic life of Manipur' is sought to be deleted.
Shifting of the cut-off year from 1951 to 1981:-
The proposal for shifting the cut-off year for citizenship of 1951 (as originally intended) by 30 years later to 1981 as proposed by the JAC is a welcome step. Some of my group members broadly want insertion of specific clauses in the Bills to safeguard the interests of the tribals. The demand of JAC, if accepted, would greatly lighten the mood of the Manipur tribals.
Except for some who crossed the porous and dubious borders and settled in Manipur post 1981, for who the sheet of doubt regarding the possibility of putting the bill (if amended as demanded), into implementation is practically gone. Unlike in the post independence period, by the year 1981 Government offices had already been updated and reliable record might have already been maintained.
MLR &LR Act:-
One matter which hurts me whenever elders and scholars relate the issue of land, is the fact that the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, 1960 (MLR&LR Act) has since been surreptitiously extended into the hill areas as a result of which certain villages in Churachandpur, Mao-Sub division of Jiribam, Sadar Hills of and Tamenglong districts have already been included within the purview of the Act.
So many villages in Imphal Ease, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts might have already been under occupation by the non-tribals.
The Charter of Demands want that the Principal Act of 1960 be restored and all gazette notifications issued there under cancelled. God bless the JAC convenors! We, the people are two steps behind!
Money Bills:-
Besides the Charter has boldly highlighted how the Hill Areas Committee is bypassed by the Government by deliberately classifying contentious bills as money bills. Thums up to JAC!

II QUERIES GALORE
Even as I rejoice over the ingenious work of the JAC, certain queries crop up in my mind looking for answers.
(i) What if there is no response from the Government side in five days?
(ii) In the event of the year 1981 or 1951 whatever, being adopted as the cut off year for citizenship, how would the Government arrange to deport migrants?
(iii) Does the Government have plans to set up border posts along the Indo-Myanmar border areas?

III SPECIFIC DEMANDS (IMPERATIVE)
Apart from the above it is imperative to put the following specific demands:-
(i) Annulment of the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against the arsonists and due compensation for the houses of the legislators burned down in the wake of the passage of the 3 Bills on 31.08.2015.
(ii) Re-construction of Zonal Education Office, Employment Office and Sub-Divisional Office of Churachandpur and preservation of each and every Government document in the speediest manner.

IV. ASPIRATIONS EMERGED FROM SOCIAL NETWORKING
Besides there are also aspirations amidst the users of whatsapp and facebook to-
(a) get the underground cadres covered under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed by the local undergrounds withe the Indian Government absorbed in the existing Indian paramilitary forces;
(b) declare 31st August as Tribal Uprising Day and holiday observed every year;
(c) relocate the police station in Churachandpur somewhere else for burial of the martyrs and conversion and development of the existing plot as Martyr's Park. This might be done after fulfillment of all other else.

V. REPEAL OF THE MANIPUR (HILL AREAS) DISTRICT COUNCILS ACT, 1971
It's been the aspiration of each and every tribal of Manipur to have the provisions of the 6th Schedule of the Constitution implemented in the hill districts of the state. Some people in the legal fraternity suggest that the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act, 1971, in its present form, be completely repealed and a fresh Bill drafted providing for legislative, judicial and administrative power.
Besides personally I believe that the District Councils having control over the police will give a complimentary solution to the problems of the tribals.
The Government also need to have a re-look at the representation of people from the scheduled tribes community in the work force of Manipur Assembly Secretariat and the distribution of such staff across the various tribal communities;

VI. ELECTRONIC CAMPAIGNS
As of now all efforts at the centre and state levels have not yielded positive results. As such a campaign through electronic media seems to be the only option left to keep the flames burning.
Since the Charter of Demands issued by the JAC on November 9, 2015 specified 5 days time for the Government to make a move, it might be wise to let that period pass before such a campaign is initiated.
If and when the specified 5 days expires without any sign of the Government showing honesty, it might be expedient to launch campaigns through electronic media by sending pictures and video clips to the various media houses and offices of executive heads of countries and organizations including the United Nations Organization (UNO)
